So now that I finally have information about my exchange, I thought it would be interesting enough to post my first blog :)
I am now one of the lucky students that have been placed with a host family. I wasn't allowed to pick where I wanted to go in America whatsoever, so it really could of been anywhere from Kentucky to California. Although I'm very happy that I've been placed in Daphne, Alabama. I'm right down in the South and I know there will be lots of history in this part of the states. I have studied the Black Civil Rights in History and know a bit about the area in this aspect. My surrounding states are Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi and Florida. As for the weather, my host mum has already said that it can range from 30-40 degrees in the summer! A lot hotter than our summers here..
Dad is saying that my accent if for sure to going stand out. Check out this Youtube clip to see why... :)
In my family there's my host mom and dad and my 10 year old sister. I have been talking with them daily through e-mail and there is so much to find out about each other. I will be living in what people have said so far to be a typical american house and my high school is not to far away from it. I will be going to Daphne High school; home of the mighty Trojans! Lunch in the cafeteria is $2 and here is an example of what they all had for lunch yesterday.
Pepperoni Wedge Pizza
Corn on Cob
Celery Sticks w/ranch
Fruit
(and a carton of milk is served with every meal)
I'm kinda excited about the lunch food!
There are also two girls staying with my host family's friends. One is from Germany and the other from Italy. They arrived last July and are staying for a year so I will be able to meet them :) They have already offered for me to sit with them at lunch for the first while and help me around which is going to be helpful!
My host dad has already told me to start researching some Jeff Fox worthy and some Larry the cable guy. They're two comedians and there's are obviously some Alabama insider jokes that I'm gonna have to catch on to!
Anyway that's all I can think of for now.. this blog is pretty bad but I guess they will get better as I make some more! I hope I have told you all that I know so far.
I'm super EXCITED and can not wait for January to roll around!
Will update you regularly and put photos up once I have some from America :)
Tessa :)
